Owing to the geographical position, climate and the composition of soil Vrh and its surroundings are famous for wine growing and production of quality wines, and especially interesting is the top quality sparkling wine.
There are two legends about the origin of sparkling wine in Vrh.
According to the first one: when Napoleon's army conquered the area around Buzet, a young girl found a wounded soldier in the Mirna valley. She helped him recover and took care of him, and so in return he revealed to her the secret of making sparkling wine.
The second legend says that the recipe for making sparkling wine was given by priest Vraniæ, originally from the Italian region of Trento which is well-known for its wines.
In the 19th century the priest convinced the townspeople of Vrh to start producing sparkling wine for the needs of the church. It's interesting to mention that they produced sparkling wine only from red varieties of grapes by a classical method.
One of the families that even today produces sparkling wine is the Grbac family from Vrh.
